IndieXchange is hosted at NextSpace and takes place throughout the day October 6th with special clinics, opportunities for one-on-one meetings, and a VIP reception.



IndieXchange provides tailored matchmaking services to independent developers, setting up opportunities to meet and exchange ideas with publishers and institutions interested in funding, publishing, or collaborating.

IndieCade offers a series of practical clinics and workshops to developers as part of the overall experience.

//PR Clinic: Promoting Your Game
You’ve had your heads down for months, and the game is almost finished. How do you get the word out to the game community? This focused workshop, a PR boot camp for indie developers, will be full of tips on what things you need to assemble for reporters, how to find and approach them, what you can do yourself, and how to choose a PR agency partner. The speaker will give you samples of press releases and pitches and talk about strategies that will help you generate interest for both the game and your studio brand.

This is a hands-on no-holds-barred workshop on the Art of the Pitch for anyone interested in how to show off their game project in the best possible light. Learn how to hone your talking skills, find the right key phrases that best describe your project, and practice other tips and tricks with the pros in the business. Fine-tune your technique and maximize the effectiveness of a five-minute elevator pitch!>


//Legal Clinic: Answering Your Questions
Whether you’re starting up a studio or interested in submitting your game for distribution, it’s important to understand the basics of IP and contracts. This workshop introduces a primer on IP as it relates specifically to videogames, covering such issues as trade secrets, patents, and copyright; we will also review a basic work for hire agreement and a distribution agreement. This session will be tailored to your current needs so please come with any pressing issues.

//IndieXchange Chair



Jane Pinckard is associate director of the Center for Games and Playable Media at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is internationally known for her long-running blog GameGirlAdvance, which explores games and art in a broader cultural context.

Jane came to Santa Cruz from Foundation 9 Entertainment, where she worked in Business Development. As a games journalist, Jane’s writing has been seen in a variety of publications including Theme Magazine, Xbox Nation and Salon. In 2005, she co-created The 1Up show, a weekly video internet show about game culture for the 1Up Network. An expert in gaming, she has lectured at Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, California College of the Arts and Whitman College and served as a non-resident fellow at Stanford University in Lawrence Lessig’s Law in Virtual Societies class. Jane has also spoken at South by Southwest, PAX and the Game Developers Conference, the industry's leading tradeshow for videogame developers. She currently serves as the Vice Chair of the International Game Developers Association.
