Cibele

Cibele is a vignette game about a young woman's experience meeting up and having sex with someone she met in an online game. It's an autobiographical game, based on designer Nina Freeman's own experience. The player plays as Nina through the development of her relationship with a young man whose avatar is called Ichi. The game happens in three acts, each one building towards Nina and Ichi meeting up in real life to have sex. The game uses both short-film and a minimalist faux online game in order to help the player embody Nina's experience with this online relationship.

About Star Maid Games

Cibele is being made by Star Maid Games, a team which consists of designer Nina Freeman, programmer Emmett Butler, sound designer and composer Decky Coss, artist Rebekka Dunlap and filmmaker Samantha Corey. Voice actor Justin Briner also performs in the game as Nina's love interest, Ichi. The team members met in New York City. Nina, Emmett and Decky have worked on a number of games together, including Indiecade 2014 finalist "how do you Do It?".

Developer's Artistic Statement

Cibele is an autobiograpical vignette game based on designer Nina Freeman's experience having a sexual relationship with a young man in an online game. It examines the tension between real bodies and digital bodies in the context of online relationships. The goal of the game is to give players the mechanics through which they can embody Nina. The mechanics and game environment are designed to support player-character embodiment by giving the player the means to understand Nina's motivations and goals, and to act on them. The player embodies Nina by playing the game as if they were her
