Darknet is a strategy/puzzle game in which you play as an elite hacker in cyberspace. Plug into the Net, installing viruses, injecting code, and tunneling through cybersecurity in an experience inspired by the classic cyberpunk vision of the future.
Darknet is primarily the creation of E McNeill, an indie developer from San Diego, but he couldn't have made the game without the help of several talented contractors, including Alfredo Barraza (Music), Clemens Scott (UI Art), Michael Heald (Concept Art), Jordan Fehr (Sound), Alex Kain (Writing), and Jon St. John (Voice).
From the moment I heard about the Oculus Rift, I knew I wanted to make a game based on Hollywood's idea of cyberpunk hacking. In 2013, I created the first prototype of this game for the Oculus/IndieCade VR Jam. When that prototype won the jam, I knew I had to make it into a full game.
I didn't just want to make a game about a fantastical cyberspace. I also wanted to invent new game mechanics that supported the game's fiction, and I wanted to explore the new design opportunities of virtual reality. The result is an environment that plays with scale and movement in VR, while engaging the player with original puzzle/strategy mechanics that require quick thinking under pressure.
