Pirate Ring is a wooden boardgame in the classic tradition, consisting of 8 number values, 2 switchpoints, and a center-point called the Dreadnay which holds the purpose of inducing an endgame battle. If either player moves a piece to the center then the player who has the higher sum value wins. This is a fast-playing puzzle-game for serious strategists.
The original game was prototyped as a boardgame, and I was solely the designer.
However, I subsequently made an app for iOS with two collaborators (Marcela and Patrick). Now, I'm bringing this full circle, and I'm releasing it as it was first intended: as a "real" boardgame made of wood. What greater pleasure is there than the feel of hand-milled wood pieces?
As brilliant as chess might be, it simply takes too long to move all the pawns into formation. Pirate Ring is chess for an impatient world. Using an innovative system of curated openings, the game begins in the middle of battle, requiring sharp thinking and tactical precision to prevail. In Pirate Ring, even a player's first move is critical.
