Developer Info

Serenity Forge was formed after its founder, Zhenghua Yang (Z), experienced an exceptionally rare life-threatening illness that left him bedridden for an entire year. Though Z was originally on a successful path to work at the U.S. Federal Reserve, he decided to forgo a financially successful future in finance in order to pursue his true passion: video game development.

Z has since gathered some of his equally passionate former high school friends to form the foundation of Serenity Forge. With a current size of 8 people, the team works on multiple projects at once in order to reduce the risks commonly associated with indie game development. The small team works in one location in order to facilitate a strong sense of community, and most are involved in multiple projects and multiple duties at any given time.

Developer's Artistic Statement

The King's Bird was largely inspired by our desire to explore the concept of freedom; specifically, our perception of "freedom of the individual" versus "freedom of society". We also wanted to create a precision platformer aimed to be less punishing than other well-known precision platformers such as Super Meat Boy and Dustforce. Lastly, we wanted to represent a sense of freedom through the concepts of flight and wind.

The art direction of the game is largely inspired by Journey, and we felt that it allowed us to visually guide the player to focus more on movements and animation.
