IndieCade Goes Abroad

Our first ever IndieCade Europe premiered in November 18-19 at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers in Paris, France. The event held two days of talks, workshops, and games, curated from IndieCade’s diverse and brilliant community of designers, thinkers, and players.

Conference Sessions and Workshops

IndieCade Europe had a full schedule featuring dozens of meaningful talks around creative industries, community support, and tools & technologies, including those by this year's wonderful keynote speakers:

  • Matt Nava
    Creative Director and Co-Founder of Giant Squid, Matt Nava, was the Art Director at thatgamecompany, his artistic vision helped craft the award winning games Flower and Journey.

  • Rami Ismail
    Business & Development Guy at Vlambeer, a Dutch independent game studio known best for Nuclear Throne, Ridiculous Fishing, LUFTRAUSERS, Super Crate Box, GUN GODZ, Serious Sam: The Random Encounter & Radical Fishing.

  • Luke Crane
    Head of Games at Kickstarter, he also designs and publishes RPGs and other games under his company, The Burning Wheel.

  • Michel Ancel
    Game designer best known for creating the Rayman franchise, for which he was the lead designer for the first two games, and the recent Rayman Origins and its sequel Rayman Legends.

  • Adriel Wallick
    Independent video game developer based out of the Netherlands. She is the organizer of an annual game jam known as Train Jam, a game designer, and a programmer.

Simon Bachelier

IndieCade Europe Conference Co-Chair

Simon Bachelier is a curator and producer based in Lyon and Paris, France. He worked several years for the public museum complex Universcience to rethink the use of video games as a learning tool for kids, teenagers, parents and senior to (re)discover sciences and to develop games activities around exhibitions, productions and events of La Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie, on of the biggest science museum in Europe. He is also active in the European indie game scene where he regularly organizes alternative events such as game jams, exhibitions or festivals. Some of his collaborative projects includes for instance the NotGames Fest and Zoo Machines. He has been a member of the french experimental collective called One Life Remains for almost 5 years where he worked as a curator and administrative manager on many international art projects from installation games to stage performances and gallery exhibitions. He also worked in parallel for Games for Change Europe on many different activities such as conferences, workshops and activists meet-ups.

Martin

Martin Pichlmair

IndieCade Europe Conference Co-Chair

Martin Pichlmair is Assistant Professor and Head of the Games Programme at ITU Copenhagen as well as co-founder of the Vienna-based indie studio Broken Rules and member of the Copenhagen Game Collective. In the past, he has exhibited media art pieces around the globe, released games for consoles, PC and mobile, and spoken at as well as organised industry and academic conferences. Martin is an IGDA Vienna and Games Austria advisory board member, is in the program committee for the Central European Games Conference, had games nominated at IGF and IndieCade and is on a quest to eat strange food wherever he goes.
