IndieCade® Festival 2015

October 22-25, 2015

Culver City

Los Angeles, California

What is IndieCade Festival?

The IndieCade Festival is the biggest event dedicated to celebrating independent games in the nation. This premiere event is held each October in the Los Angeles area and is open to the industry and to the public.

This year's event took place October 22-25, 2015 and included a professional conference track, business networking, social activities, tournaments and entertainment, as well as fun programs for the entire family.

IndieCade Festival 2015 offered a unique opportunity to play and preview over 200 of the latest innovative indie games of all types and from around the world. Attendees were able to enjoy games, talks, and events with both creators of new titles, as well as legends from across the industry.

The IndieCade Festival is a celebration of indie games, its creators and the innovation within the industry. We also curate and recognize those that we identify as the top indie games of the year. More than 200 games of all types are selected by our esteemed Jury and are made available to play. Attendees also get the chance to meet the creators of these amazing games. Hands-on gameplay includes IndieCade Award Winners, Nominees, and Special Selections, which include digital, table, and real world titles.

The games span genres and platforms and truly push expectations. Get the chance to play games you are anticipating before they become hits, experience titles that can only be played at IndieCade Festival, or discover games and creators that you never would have known about. Plus you get a chance to vote for your favorite game to receive the Audience Choice Award at the end of the Festival. Check out the previous year's game selections here.

Conference Sessions

IndieCade runs multiple conference tracks throughout the Festival. All conference sessions correspond with specific pass types:

  • IndieXchange® Pass - Provides entry to the IndieXchange sessions
  • GameU Pass - Access to sessions for aspiring creators

Additionally, the Festival grounds will host a variety of Artist Talks, presentations, and the GameTasting area.

Night Games & More!

Night Games is a unique annual event at IndieCade Festival. On Saturday night, the Festival village transforms into the ultimate live playground as people play specially curated games under the stars and experience a memorable festival highlight.

IndieCade Festival’s annual beer garden party gives you a fun opportunity to socialize and try out games specially curated for the celebration!

Letter from the Chairs

The conference sessions are a vital part of the Festival.
See below a letter from the Chairs regarding the vision of this year's sessions.

What “Indie” Means in 2015

As IndieCade celebrates its ninth year as an organization—and the Festival’s seventh year in Culver City—there’s a lot to reflect on in the world of indie games. The more time that passes, the more we see the meaning of the word “indie” become both deeper and broader: a genre of games, an economic condition, an ideology to push against, or a way of life. Just as indie pop and rock emerged from punk and impacted the mass market, so too have we seen an incredible array of games, sub-genres and perspectives emerge from the indie scene of the early 2000s: everything from “AAA indie” to artgames, notgames, queer games, altgames, and more. This year's IndieCade conference is composed of three parts:

  • think:indie, (formerly known as “the IndieCade Professional Conference”) where developers gather to discuss design, development and criticism
  • IndieXchange, where indies can meet to share ideas, show off their prototypes, network, pitch and even talk bizdev
  • GameU, oriented towards teachers and students, but welcoming to all who want to learn how to join the growing field of indie development

Together, these tracks combine and intertwine to create a place where our overlapping communities can come together and share their diverse values, tastes and concerns about the one thing we all have in common: games. It is our hope that the sessions at this year’s conference will broaden our collective understanding of what it means to make and play the many different kinds of emerging games at large in the indie world and that we will all walk away with at least one new way of thinking about games and their future.

We’re looking forward to seeing you in Culver City!
