The IndieCade Festival is the biggest event dedicated to celebrating independent games in the nation. Now in its 9th year, this premiere event is held each October in the Los Angeles area and is open to the industry and to the public.
This year's event takes place October 13-16, 2016. The event starts Thursday, October 13th with a developer summit (The IndieXchange). The Festival and gameplay opens Friday, October 14th with exhibits, conference sessions and workshops, business networking, social activities, tournaments and entertainment, as well as fun play for everyone. Check the schedule to see when various exhibits will open (Note that: IndieCade Nominated Game Exhibits open late in the day on the 14th and then run for the weekend and Digital Selections run Saturday and Sunday.
IndieCade Festival 2016 offers a unique opportunity to play and preview over 200 of the latest innovative indie games of all types and from around the world. Attendees enjoy games, talks, and events with both creators of new titles, as well as legends from across the industry.
The IndieCade Festival is a celebration of indie games, its creators and the innovation within the industry. We also curate and recognize those that we identify as the top indie games of the year. More than 200 games of all types are selected by our esteemed Jury and are made available to play. Attendees also get the chance to meet the creators of these amazing games. Hands-on gameplay includes IndieCade Award Winners, Nominees, and Special Selections, which include digital, table, and real world titles.
Nominated games open starting Friday at 4:00 pm and run through the weekend. Digital Selections are open Saturday and Sunday. VR, Big Games and Table Games all run Friday through Sunday.
The games span genres and platforms and truly push expectations. Get the chance to play games you are anticipating before they become hits, experience titles that can only be played at IndieCade Festival, or discover games and creators that you never would have known about. Additionally, the Festival grounds will host a variety of artist talks and presentations.
We are excited to announce a new event this year, the think:indie summit, bringing together a cross-disciplinary group of creatives for two days of deep collaborations around topics chosen by the community based on what you care about most.
Rather than the standard conference talk format, the summit will be focused on facilitated break-out workshop-style discussions, with outcomes that will be shared with the whole group. Our goal is to stimulate real outcomes from this workshops. We want this to be the start of a tradition where we can build on these learnings every year and continue supporting the issues in our community that we care about most.
The think:indie summit takes place the Saturday and Sunday of the IndieCade Festival. Your think:indie pass will also provide access to the kick off party, night games, and the festival. Tickets are extremely limited as this is intended to be an intimate event.
The IndieXchange Summit is a series of workshops, sessions, master classes, and networking meetings specifically for developers. The IndieXchange starts October 13th and runs through October 14th.
IndieXchange includes GameTasting, a show-and-tell style event held all day, Thursday October 13th.

Along side IndieCade’s many game selections, this year’s special exhibitors included PlayStation with a focus on their upcoming indie releases and PSVR (PlayStation VR), Epic Unreal Engine, Intel,and more. On Friday night, October 14th, IndieCade Festival’s annual opening party is open to All-Access and think:indie Pass holders. This year's Reception hosted by USC is a fun opportunity to socialize and try out games specially curated for the celebration and to sing to live Karaoke!
Night Games is a unique annual event at IndieCade Festival. On Saturday night, October 15th, the Festival transforms into the ultimate live playground as people play specially curated games under the stars and experience a memorable festival highlight.
Night Games doors close at 9PM - no tickets will be sold on site after that - the event itself stays open until 11PM.
Audience, developers, and media vote on their choices throughout the festival. These along with ten other juried awards will be bestowed upon the IndieCade finalists and selections at the IndieCade awards ceremony at the end of the showcase on Sunday, October 16th. Make sure to vote for your audience choice award when you are at the festival!
