Austen Translation

Worthing & Moncrieff

Austen Translation is a satirical strategy game set in the world of Jane Austen—a tongue-in-cheek take on caustic rivalries, the roles of women and men, and, of course, the unending quest to marry well. In Austen Translation, the player takes on the role of an innocent young woman who has to convince a wealthy bachelor to marry her so she can escape a future of poverty and destitution. But this isn’t your English teacher’s Jane Austen. Our game takes Jane’s genteel brand of satire and sends it over the top, creating an experience rife with dropping pianos, outrageous rumors, and mercilessly manipulated rivalries.

The game can be played in single-player mode, or against up to four human opponents in madcap local hotseat mode. Players customize their heroines and steer them through a single high-stakes social season. At each social event, the player makes choices that affect how the bachelors view her Wit, Ruthlessness and Charm. After the dramatic plot twist, and an epilogue filled with rejection and acrimony, one lucky heroine will land her wallet — err, I mean bachelor, and pledge their undying fiscal union.
