IndieCade Festival

The IndieCade Festival is the premiere event dedicated to celebrating independent games. IndieCade offers the unique opportunity to play and preview hundreds of the latest indie games and innovations, many of which are seen first or can only be played at IndieCade. The Festival is filled with the opportunity to play a multitude of games from around the world, attend talks and events, interact with creators of new titles, as well as legends from across the industry, enjoy music, and so much more. IndieCade also hosts an in-depth game developer summit, conference sessions, educational workshops, business networking, social activities, tournaments, and entertainment.

Note: The Center for Media and Design is a division of Santa Monica College but is located on its own separate campus at 1660 Stewart St, Santa Monica, CA 90404. For more travel information go HERE.

CONFERENCE SESSIONS

Every year, IndieCade convenes top innovators in independent game creation across genres to explore groundbreaking new ideas, trends and technologies. 2019’s conference featured a variety of presentations, conversations and roundtable discussions representing a diverse range of leading voices in the field.

GAMES

NIGHT GAMES

IndieCade’s signature evening event always includes amazing gameplay, at night, under the sky. Night Games 2019 took place Saturday, October 12th.

AWARDS

The Annual IndieCade Awards ceremony was held the night of Friday, October 11th. All Friday Festival attendees were invited to join the audience and celebrate Festival 2019’s incredible games and talent!

In addition, the IndieCade Choice Awards were announced and presented on Saturday, October 12th at Night Games.

INDIEXCHANGE

The IndieXchange (IXC) is the pre-event developer summit designed by and for developers. 2019’s summit included sessions (talks, workshops, panels, and forms), networking (with other developers, publishers, influencers and more), and show-and-tell opportunities. 

GAMETASTING

GameTasting is a show-and-tell of works in progress and and an opportunity to provide input on games not yet released. 2019’s exhibit included: Color Lab, Interactive Portraits, Queering Spacetime, SHASN, Blabyrinth, Emberlight, EMPATH, and many more!

FLASH JAM

Drop everything and jam. Occurred randomly across the Festival!

KEYNOTES

IndieCade’s 2019 Keynotes featured presenters and projects at the front end of emerging trends, including participatory theatre, indie eSports, and lessons of failure from game design and beyond.

2019’s keynotes included:

  • “Failing Better: A Peek into Failure-Positive Creativity” featuring Colleen Macklin and John Sharp
  • “Participant Agency in Immersive Experiences: Playing the Accessible Unknown” featuring Meow Wolf Executive Producer Jenny Weinbloom and No Proscenium Editor Kathryn Yu!
  • “Killer Queen, Catan, and The Sopranos” featuring BumbleBear’s Joshua DeBonis and Nikita Mikros

TRAVEL

FILM SCREENING

In Bright Axiom: A movie about a game that accidentally became a religion.

The film was shown in the theater space at 8pm on Thursday, October 10th, followed by a Q&A with the director, Spencer McCall.
