TEMPLE OF YOG is a roguelike adventure through procedurally generated dungeons that span the two screens made available by the Wii U console. Gameplay shifts between the TV and the GamePad as you guide sacrificial tributes through two linked (but different) worlds of peril. When tributes die, their sacrifice becomes a boon for the Village that sent them in, resulting in their advancement as a civilization. As more sacrifices are made, more advancements to the Village occur, transforming it from a primitive backwater town to a futuristic acropolis.
TEMPLE OF YOG explores the hubris of civilization and the myth of progress using roguelike conventions and unique gameplay elements achievable only on the Wii U console.
The player sends Tributes into the Temple to their inevitable demise. The roguelike staple of permadeath has meaning in this context. The player selects a Tribute that will always ascend to the Temple Zenith and return a lifeless body. Where this game breaks permadeath tradition is in the Village
People in our team have spent the past decade writing music and playing shows in various folk, punk, thrash, hip hop, chiptune and metal bands promoting do-it-yourself ethics and methods of distribution. We are creators who share alternative views through art, music, and zines. It is from these perspectives and collaborations that we are currently joined in the development of TEMPLE OF YOG.
