The University was the first in the world to offer majors in computer games and ethical hacking, and we remain the number one games university in Europe — listed in the Princeton Review’s ‘World’s Top 25 Games Universities’ for the seventh year in a row. Our graduate games programs are ranked top 10 in the world.

With around 4500 students representing 60+ nationalities, we’re one of Scotland’s smallest university communities. The tightknit nature of life at Abertay has seen us ranked a top 10 UK institution for student satisfaction (National Student Survey 2020). It has also recently been ranked No. 1 in the UK for Teaching Quality (Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021).

Abertay’s teaching focuses on STEM subjects, business and social sciences, but it is perhaps best known for its world class reputation in videogames education and cybersecurity.

The University places a strong focus on professional development. The games programs are designed to harness creativity through practical project work. ‘Thinking outside the textbook’ allows our students to choose their own path, giving them the opportunity to apply knowledge to real world environments. Videogames students benefit hugely from studio simulation and team—based development, ensuring confidence and a high level of ability upon graduation.
