We are excited to announce a new event this year, the think:indie summit, bringing together a cross-disciplinary group of creatives for two days of deep collaborations around topics chosen by the community based on what you care about most.
Rather than the standard conference talk format, the summit will be focused on facilitated break-out workshop-style discussions, with outcomes that will be shared with the whole group.
We want this to be the start of a tradition where we can build on these learnings every year and continue supporting the issues in our community that we care about most. At the end of the summit, the goal is to have created a community design document together.

Dear IndieCade Community,
We are getting wonderful topic submissions for our Think:Indie Summit and we thank you for your ideas!
The Think:Indie Summit is a new event at Indiecade, one that is loosely structured and workshop-focused, driven by you, the community. We are still soliciting topic suggestions (until October 1st) and when we meet together on October 15th, we will refine and decide on which ideas we want to work on collectively. We will have a mix of larger group meetings alongside smaller, more directed workshops, and at the end we will share our outcomes together. We hope this will become a core pillar of Indiecade that we can build on, year after year.

Also, thanks to all those who've expressed interest in being a facilitator, applications have been closed, and we're reaching out to people and pulling together a good group to help guide our discussions together. We're excited to work with everyone to make this a fruitful summit.
- What is think:indie Summit?
- Think Indie Summit is a collaborative, goal-focused event during IndieCade structured around topics that the Indiecade community chooses, similar to an unconference or think-tanks.
- What’s the structure of the summit?
- We start at 10am on Saturday, October 14th with opening remarks and discussion around the topics chosen. As a group, we decide on what the desired outcomes are, and whether we want to tweak the framing of a topic in any fashion. We then self-organize into breakout rooms to dive deeply into each topic.
We break for lunch, and have an afternoon session, after which we’ll gather together again to reflect on the first day working groups and set goals for Sunday. We end Saturday at 4:30PM.
Sunday begins at 10am, with some reflections on the achievements of the previous day. We’ll break for one more session, then regroup at noon to share each working group’s results with the larger groups. We will wrap up at 1PM.
- How are topics selected?
- Topics are sourced through you, our community! Our organizers have reached out to IndieCade attendees to ask about issues most important to us, and you are also welcome to suggest topics here: http://bit.ly/thinkindie. The deadline for facilitator applications is Sept. 1st, and the deadline for topic suggestions is Oct. 1st.
The co-chairs will review the topics and come up with a finalized list, which the group of attendees will discuss on Saturday when we meet.
- How do I participate?
- We encourage very active participation! Each topic will have a facilitator (you can apply to be one: http://bit.ly/thinkindie) but the content and outcomes of the working groups are dependent on its participants. So come prepared to listen and share ideas, brainstorm, and commit to creating positive outcomes that will be shared with the larger Indiecade community.

- Who is think:indie for?
- The Think Indie Summit is for anyone interested in participating! If you are committed to creating positive futures for games, and if you’d like to meet and work with other people who share that goal, come to the summit! This includes game developers, interactive artists, immersive theater artists, academics, and creative professionals from multidisciplinary backgrounds.
- How should I prepare?
- No formal preparation is necessary, but you might want to think about the concerns that you would most like to discuss with a group of like-minded creatives, and come prepared to articulate them. - What are the goals?
- The goals are first, to make connections with other creatives working towards a positive future for games and interactive media; second, to surface the topics that are of most relevance right now and discuss them with colleagues; and finally, to come away with a sense of what positive steps can be taken by you, personally, to help put words into action. In short, we’re looking for concrete outcomes.
- What do you mean by Outcomes?
- Our hope is that by the end of the summit we will have started a community design document together that can help serve to articulate and illustrate what makes IndieCade special, and how we can maintain and improve it together.
