IndieCade Festival 2017 Honorees

Every year IndieCade is proud to honor and recognize the top innovators among the indie games field. We're thrilled to announce the honorees of the year! Each will be holding special events throughout the Festival. We can't wait to welcome them to the Festival this October 8th in Los Angeles.

This year IndieCade is delighted to give out the following awards:

Keita Takahashi / Trailblazer

The IndieCade Trailblazer award is an honorary prize given by IndieCade every year to a working creator who has made both great contributions to the field of games and captures the independent and pioneering sprit. The Trailblazer award is for distinguished accomplishment over a career of creation, and recognizes those personalities without whom many of us would have never fallen in love with the field. Past Recipients include Time Schafer (2010), Megan Gaiser (2011), Elan Lee (2012), Tracy Fullerton (2013), Alex Rigopolous (2014), Brenda Laurel (2015), and Rand Miller (2016)

This year's recipient, Keita Takahashi, is a Japanese game designer. He studied Fine Art and Sculpture at Musashino Art University from 1996 to 1999. He joined Namco after graduated, and made three commercial titles "Katamari Damacy (PS2)", "We love Katamari (PS2)" and "Noby Noby Boy (PS3 and iOS)". He moved to Vancouver after leaving Namco, and made the small indie games “Tenya Wanya Teens” and “ALPHABET”. Now he and his team are working on the new title “Wattam” in San Francisco.

Join us Sunday at 5pm as we journey through Takahashi's legacy with a special portfolio review and Q&A session at the Festival.

Humans Vs. Zombies Creation Team (Gnarhwal Studios) / Bernie DeKoven Big Fun Award

Drawing by Kellan Jett

This new annual honorary award was created in collaboration with Bernie DeKoven, to honor his legacy and to recognize individuals or organizations significantly furthering the field and impact of new, big, and physical games.

Help us honor Bernie at our Big Fun session Saturday at 10am and at our Night Games on Saturday Night!

Humans vs. Zombies is a game of tag played at schools, camps, neighborhoods, libraries, and conventions around the world. Human players must remain vigilant and defend themselves with socks and dart blasters to avoid being tagged by a growing zombie horde. The original co-creators of Humans vs. Zombies are Chris Weed, Brad Sappington, Joe Sklover, Justin Quick, Trevor Moorman, Ben Beecher, and Max Temkin. They have a game company called Gnarwhal Studios dedicated to maintaining Humans vs. Zombies as a free project and making new multiplayer experiences.

Want to try Humans Vs. Zombies? Play it Sunday from 2pm to 5pm!
