Big Fish / Little Fish is a fastpaced field game for 8+ players in which teams of players connected by jump ropes attempt to surround other teams, consuming and absorbing them with the ultimate goal of subsuming all players into a single big fish. Little fish need not despair however because by surrounding a single player on either end of the big fish they can slowly break the big fish back down into its constituent little fish parts. Big Fish / Little Fish has the fast paced chase of Tag, the hilarious complexity of taut, tangled ropes, the tactical
confusion of coordinating frantic players to move as one, and the satisfying variety of backandforth
Big Fish / Little Fish is a game that navigates the line between the primitive and the sophisticated. The design began with idea of creating a physical game that involved using jump ropes in some way other than their intended functionality. The resulting game is a combination of the twoplayersattachedtoeachother concept of Push Me Pull You and the predatory chasing of Tag. Big Fish / Little Fish evokes the primitive joy of chasing, of choosing a target and running them down. Rather than allowing for the simple and satisfying tap of Tag however, Big Fish / Little Fish requires that players must coordinate their movements with others and grapple with the natural tension of jump ropes to loop around other players to consume them or to break apart their larger group. The speed of the chasing element further complicates the challenges of Push Me Pull Youstyle coordination and tension and the tactical complexities of looping other players prevents the straightforward relationship between speed and success found in Tag. As a final note, Big Fish / Little Fish gets its name from the constant back and forth between large teams and simple pairs as players consume one another or break each other
