EXTREME MOTORIZED ACTION! THE JOYLANCER: LEGENDARY MOTOR KNIGHT is the latest addition to the side-scroller game– a blazing-fast-paced low-color action-platformer with a style and finesse uniquely its own. After a sudden attack on her home city, our protagonist, an androgynous young recruit named Joy Lantz, recklessly takes matters into her own hands, sneaking out of the Motor Knight Academy and running after the attacker, the ruthless and wordy King Bartholomew Lancelot Rosell. Granted with the power of the Divine-Armor and the Joylance, Joy zooms through over 40 stages and six areas, motivated only by her desire to be a hero. However, she may soon discover that being a "hero" isn't all it's cracked up to be...
Joylancer was developed over a collaborative and symbiotic two year period by queer artist collective alpha six productions. The project is directed, produced, animated and written by natasha "tj" thomas-maxine, and programmed by Jesse Burnett as a labor of love towards the games we fell in love with as children, with a more modern and up-to-date spin on things. Collecting influence from over three decades of games spread amongst multiple eras and console generations, Joylancer's action goes further than the basics and includes in-depth customization options, such as a high selection of difficulties that cater to many different types of players, multiple color settings, customizing how certain techniques work, extremely varied and unique equipment, and more!
Joylancer first launched on itch.io in January of 2014. Its next launch, on Steam's Early Access programme, happened in November 2014. The full release is currently slated for November / December 2015, with potential ports to consoles in 2016.
