The University of Miami Interactive Media program prepares students to research, prototype, design, and build products in business, social, academic, and cultural contexts. Offering undergraduate and graduate degrees, we create games designed to solve problems and used by industries like defense, education, scientific exploration, health care, emergency management, city planning, engineering, and politics.

Notably, the New Experience Research and Design Lab (NERDLab) is an award-winning student-faculty cooperative driven by research, development, and an enthusiasm for social impact. It is directed by Clay Ewing. NERDLab functions as an incubator for initiatives that collaborate locally, nationally, and in the global space. NERDLab integrates classic and novel techniques to produce projects that inspire and educate through innovation and fun.

NERDLab is funded through various internal and external grants. Graduate and undergraduate student members are paid to work on projects including transformational video & tabletop games, websites, web/mobile apps, VR experiences, and more.
