Featured Retrospective
Welcome to the 20th year of IndieCade!
IndieCade is organized by an expansive team of dedicated individuals who believe we can make an impact on the industry and ultimately change the way the world plays, understands, and is shaped by games. To this end, IndieCade supports independent game development through a series of international events showcasing the future of games. We have curated a retrospective of games shown at the festival to celebrate this milestone with you!
For this retrospective, we have chosen to highlight some of the amazing work featured at the festival since its inception: early projects from studios that went on to create beloved games, studios that formed through social connections at the festival, games in nascent formats that would define new genres, games with technical innovations, games that explore new stories and perspectives, works with indefatigable visual style, and massive successes that demanded recognition.
These games are only a fraction of the games shown at IndieCade, each celebrated alongside experiences and experiments that explored the edges of what games could be, works that strove for innovation and meaning. The festival served as a point of connection for these diverse creators all joined by a love of playful interaction. This community of developers informs one another, shares ideas, and encourages further exploration, excellence, and deeper expression.
This look back at IndieCade’s past serves as a living history of the medium in the early 21st century. This selected body of work charts the course that independent video games have taken and provides hope for the future of the form and medium. The creative power of artists dedicated to creating play for all people is overwhelming, and we hope this collection of games shares that hope with you.
